Wahitjan Osman is a well-known Uyghur poet, writer, and editor. He is one of the main editors who got arrested in 2017 and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment
Wahitjan Osman was born on April 1st ,1963 in Keplin town, Aksu prefecture. He graduated from Xinjiang University in 1985 and holds the bachelor degree of Literature. From 1985 till 2001, he worked as an editor for “Heritage (in Uyghur called Miras)” magazine.
In 2001 Wahitjan Osman transferred to the Xinjaing education publishing house. From 2002 till 2005, he was the deputy editor-in-chief of “Xinjiang Education” magazine. From 2006 till being arrested by the Chinese government, he was working in the Uyghur textbook department of Xinjiang education publishing house.
More than 500 poems by Wahitjan Osman have been published in various newspapers and magazines, and more than 40 of his poems have been composed to songs, along with that he has many valuable poetry collections such as “Sound Bow” and “Forty One Hearts” as well.
In 2013, the poetry collection “Sound Bow” won the “Tulpar” prize, which is the highest literary award in China. Wahitjan Osman has also done a lot of work in the field of TV dramas, and his films such as “The Desert Cup” and “Late Blooming Flower” have been well received and appreciated by the public.
